NO MORE DIDDY

Diddy A.K.A. Pacifier.
We are going on three weeks without it.  After almost 2 1/2 years we are DONE.
It has been in the talks for months (probably closer to a year).  We had mostly limited it to naps, bedtime, and the occasional long car ride.  It was starting to become an obsession.  Maddie would ask to lay in her bed and would often sneak in her room and stand by her bed with it in her mouth.
One night while at the dinner table, Maddie was not cooperating…trying to get down from the table, not trying anything on her plate, and just being overall cranky.  I said to her “if you don’t stop acting like that I am going to throw your diddy away”.  I don’t know why it came to me like that.  It sounds awful typing it out, but that is exactly what happened.  Well the behavior continued, so I got her diddy and tossed it out the door (once again, I don’t know why I threw it outside, but I did).  She just looked at me and said “mommy throw my diddy away?”  I said “yep, no more diddy”.  We continued our evening as usual and when it came to bedtime and her asking for it we just reminded her that I had thrown it away and that she would have to sleep without it.   She never really cried or fussed.  She went to bed and we have never looked back!
Over the next couple of days she did ask for it at nap and bedtime, but we just reminded her that it was gone and she was a big girl now.
It feels good.  Real good.  The only time that it has made me sad is when we say our prayers at night she has said on several occasions “God bless my diddy”.  It pulls on the heartstrings just a little bit.  But I quickly get over it and thank the Lord that we are not tied down to that piece of plastic anymore….We no longer have to hear those words “I want my diddy ba-ba”…well until this new baby comes along….

Yes, that just happened…

I have to share this story that happened over a week ago, because if I don’t jot it down it might get lost in this pregnancy brain of mine.

We were getting ready to head to the pool, so I was letting Maddie run around naked while I was checking email and paying a couple of bills.  I heard her in my bathroom chatting away with Brady as if they were BFF’s (which in her mind they probably are).  She was singing “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” and saying “now Brady you sing”.  The poor kid never got a response from him, though.  haha!

The next thing I know she comes into the office and looks at me and says “Mommy I poo poo’ed”.  Immediately I jump up and say “where???”.  Maddie then said “in mommy and daddy’s bathroom.  Brady ate it”.  WHAT!?!!  I quickly ran into the bathroom to look for any evidence of her actually pooping in there.  I couldn’t see any.  I asked her where she pooped and she said “the rug”.  I am not kidding, I got down on my hands and knees and even started to smell the rug.  I asked her again what happened and she answered the same way “I poo poo’ed.  Brady ate it".

Well I will never know if this actually did occur, but I have to believe that she was telling the truth.  How would a two year old make that up?

I have a dog that won’t eat his own food half the time, but yet will indulge in a two year old’s poop.  Awesome.

Our First House

We have officially been in our house for two months now.  Time has quickly passed us by.  We have stayed super busy unpacking boxes, getting organized, painting (we have painted the office and Maddie’s room so far), doing yardwork, slowly buying things, and just trying to settle in.  We love it.  It feels so great to be in our own house for the first time since being married.  Five years of marriage, four years of medical school, one child, and one on the way and we have finally been able to do it!

There is so much left to do, but we will tackle projects as they come.  The next thing is to get baby William’s nursery together.  We have picked out the color and gathered lots of décor, so we are well on our way!

Ocean Isle, NC

For our first official family vacation, we headed to Ocean Isle, North Carolina for a whole week.  We booked back in January, so we had been looking forward to the beach for many months.  My sister and her family joined us and so did my mom.  We had a relaxing time for the most part and just enjoyed each other.  Maddie does not sleep too well when we go places, but she did pretty good considering she was not in her own bed.  She was up at the crack of dawn every morning, so that was always fun.  Maddie was excited to see the beach and she still talks about it weeks later, so I know she had a good time.

Ocean Isle is just about one hour north of the South Carolina border.  The beach was really nice and not too crowded, which we really enjoyed.  Between my mom, sister, and myself I think we took about 2,000 pictures.  It has been hard looking through all of them and deciding which ones to order.  Here is a sampling of our week at the beach…

Baby BOY on the way!

We went in for our big ultrasound and when we arrived we were told that there was not an tech there that day and we would have to be rescheduled.  I of course immediately started to cry, because I was dying to find out if the baby was first of all healthy, but what was swimming around in there!  One of my amazing doctors was super nice and said he would hook up the machine and see if we could get a sneak peak of the baby.  It was such a relief!  The baby looked wonderful and heartbeat was about 150 (a little lower than Maddie’s always was).  From the moment I found out I was pregnant I felt boy all the way.  Different sickness…only sick at night with this baby, whereas Maddie was ALL DAY for the first few months.  Also, I had some major cravings for salty food, especially fried pickles at the beginning (if I see a fried pickle now I will probably barf because I made so many of them for a week straight).  I just felt different.

When the doctor went towards the bottom of the baby I immediately saw boy parts.  Definitely not a girl.  The doctor didn’t say anything at first, because he wanted to be sure.  It was funny though, because Gabe said “oh I think I know what it is”.  He definitely had on his gender goggles, because he later told me that he thought it was a girl!  It was confirmed by the doctor that we are having a little boy.  I was so excited to hear those words!

We decided to have a little impromptu get together at our house with a few friends and family to tell them the exciting news.

We went back the following week for a more in depth ultrasound and it was confirmed again that it was a HEALTHY LITTLE BOY!  We are thrilled!!!  And the little man will be called….

William Steven McCoy

William is Gabe’s dad’s name and Steven is my dad’s name.  Although baby William will not meet his grandfathers on this earth, he will know them and carry both of their names for his entire life.  How incredible is that?  I know his Grandpa and Poppy are beaming from ear to ear from Heaven.

Dr. Gabriel McCoy, D.O.

My smart and hardworking husband did it!!  After four years of medical school he is a graduate of the University of Pikeville Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine!  He worked so hard for this honor and I could not be more proud of him.  He graduated #2 in his class and will start his Internal Medicine residency at Greenville Memorial Hospital on July 1st!  It was a long road, but we all survived.  It really is surreal to now have a doctor husband.  Now on to the next chapter in our lives…RESIDENCY!
